Nicky has over a decade of experience as a journalist, and five years of radio broadcasting, producing and programming under her belt. Her skills as a musician and composer allow her to talk and write about music from various genres with both knowledge and an utter adoration for the art form in her trademark vivacious, witty and inclusive style.

The Jazz Session Podcast - Host & Producer

In August 2021, Nicky took over hosting and producing duties for the 14-year old podcast, The Jazz Session. The first and oldest jazz interview podcast (created by Jason Crane in 2007), the show features in-depth conversations with jazz musicians, focusing on their music and their lives.

Season 14 guests included Maria Schneider, Terence Blanchard, Lars Danielsson, Miho Hazama, Shai Maestro, Artemis, Emile Parisien, and Mandisi Dyantyis.
Season 14 labels represented included ECM Records, ACT Music, Edition Records, Universal Music, Sony France, Sunnyside, and Anzic Records.

During her hosting/producing tenure, Nicky also started a spin-off series called "The Insider", which saw her interview jazz industry experts about the nuts and bolts of the business. Guests included manager Gail Boyd, publicist Lydia Liebman, Edition Records CEO Dave Stapleton, jazz journalist Gwen Ansell, booking agent Mike Epstein, and more.

JazzFM.91 - Segment Presenter & Producer

Nicky first ventured into broadcasting in 2017 as a presenter on Cape Town's Fine Music Radio 101.3. Initially compiling and presenting contemporary classical chamber works for "Collage", she was later given a weekly 2-hour programme on the station, which she named "Stepping Out". On air for a year, the show celebrated the magic of film scores, folk songs, jazz, classical and world music, and was encapsulated by the tagline: Experience the joy of music that moves you.

From May 2021 till May 2022, Nicky produced and hosted a segment for Toronto's JazzFM91 Station focusing on Canadian jazz musicians. Airing during Brad Barker's Afternoon Drive show, "This Bright North" allowed Nicky to share her recent Canadian musical discoveries with listeners in a short, sharp 3 minute offering.
